he 27 Club – Jimi Hendrix stands as an enigmatic testament to the timeless allure of one of rock and roll’s most legendary figures. Crafted through the innovative fusion of lenticular and glass print techniques, this 3D mixed media art piece transcends traditional boundaries, offering viewers a multi-dimensional journey into the essence of Hendrix’s persona and musical genius.

Limited to a mere nine pieces worldwide, each iteration of The 27 Club – Jimi Hendrix carries an aura of exclusivity, inviting discerning collectors and aficionados alike to delve into its intricate layers of symbolism and interpretation.

At first glance, the piece mesmerizes with its striking visual impact. The lenticular technique breathes life into Hendrix’s iconic image, capturing his electrifying stage presence and magnetic charisma in vivid detail. As spectators move around the artwork, the image undergoes a mesmerizing transformation, evoking the dynamic spirit of Hendrix’s performances.

Yet, beyond its surface allure, The 27 Club – Jimi Hendrix delves deeper into the complexities of the artist’s life and legacy. Through meticulous layering and juxtaposition of elements, the artwork offers a profound exploration of Hendrix’s status as a cultural icon and his enduring influence on generations of musicians and fans.

Moreover, the deliberate choice to limit the edition to nine pieces serves as a poignant reminder of the ephemeral nature of artistic brilliance. Much like the tragic members of the infamous 27 Club, Hendrix’s life burned brightly but was extinguished far too soon, leaving behind a legacy that continues to resonate with audiences worldwide.

In essence, The 27 Club – Jimi Hendrix transcends the confines of traditional art forms, offering a captivating synthesis of technique, symbolism, and emotion. As one immerses oneself in its immersive depths, it becomes abundantly clear that Hendrix’s legacy is not confined to the annals of music history but remains vibrantly alive within the fabric of contemporary culture.
  • About the artist

For artist James Chiew, nothing happens by chance. All his creative expressions stem from his enormous urge for experiment and innovation. In his versatile mixed media works, the originally Singaporean autodidact always pushes the boundaries. This is reflected in his ideas and choice of materials. In an idiosyncratic and original way, James combines (photographic) images and objects with different materials, such as wood, metal, acrylic paint, epoxy and everything else that is possible.

In doing so, he mixes modern graphic techniques with classical methods and analogous materials.
James Chiew: “The digital age offers unprecedented opportunities. I like to experiment, because I'm always looking for new angles. The challenge for me is to try to achieve the impossible. I want to make things more beautiful. That often starts in my immediate environment.

Everyday objects at home and in the studio I try to show in a special way. By pimping objects, I make people look at them differently and think about them.” His works of art always have a lot of depth: literally and figuratively you discover several layers in his works.

Photography has only been the basis for James Chiew for a few years and proved to be the start of his new period. The camera and photo material offer him unprecedented perspectives, which immediately resulted in his most recognized work to date: Beatrix 3-D. In 2013, he was invited to the exhibition 'Image of Beatrix' in Paleis Het Loo and Paleis Soestdijk in honor of Beatrix's 75th birthday.
