- Sur l'oeuvre d'artThe merchant and painter Simon van Brakel (1816-1884) was a member of the artistsociety Pictura and belonged to the School of Dordrecht, dominated by the painter J.C. Schotel. As a painter Simon was taught by his father Gerrit van Brakel, also a merchant as well as a painter of seascapes and member of Pictura as well. Oil on panel, signed.
- Sur l'artisteSimon van Brakel était un peintre d'origine né le 24 décembre 1816 à Dordrecht, aux Pays-Bas. Il était connu à la fois comme marchand et comme peintre. Les sujets de prédilection de sa main sur les paysages marins, les navires et les vues sur le fleuve. En 1869, le travail de van Brakels a été exposé à l'Exposition générale des Beaux Arts. Van Brakel vécut toute sa vie dans la ville de Dordrecht et mourut le 5 février 1884.
