About the artist
Albert Roosenboom was a pupil of the famous Belgian painter and sculptor Emile Meunier. Unlike his teacher, whose oeuvre centred on the lives of the labouring classes, Roosenboom preferred to paint narrative genre scenes with elegant women and children as protagonists. Apart from their artistic merit, his works are also admired for the insight they provide into fashions, interiors and daily life in the second half of the nineteenth century. From 1869 Albert Roosenboom took part in exhibitions in Brussels, Ghent and London.
