About the artist

Gerardus Johannes (Geert) Lap (Venlo, 24 December 1951) is a Dutch ceramist, known for his new approach to ceramics characterized as clay minimalism. After studying at the AKV St. Joost between 1974 and 1976, he attended the Gerrit Rietveld Academie from 1976 to 1979, where he was apprenticed to Jan van der Vaart. During the first two years, Lap shared a studio with Barbara Nanning, and in 1980 he set up op his own studio in Amsterdam. Between 1985 and 1986 he lectured at the Design Academy in Eindhoven and from 1985 to 1987 he taught at the Minerva Academy in Groningen. Lap works in traditional methods making vases, bowls, and dishes, although he is not concerned with their usability. Color and form are integral.
