Josep Bofill Moliné (Barcelona, 1942) is a Catalan sculptor for whom art is a means of reconciling opposites. His oeuvre operates at the intersection of matter and spirit, silence and communication, individual and collective.

Bofill grew up in a distinctly artistic environment. At the age of fifteen, he collaborated with his father on frescoes in the Chapel of St. Andrew in Andorra—an early experience that would permanently shape his sense of scale, symbolism, and craftsmanship. Shortly thereafter, he opened his own studio, where he experimented with a variety of disciplines, including goldsmithing and ceramics.

He received his formal training at the Escuela de Artes y Oficios in Barcelona. He lives and works in Barcelona to this day.
In his work, Bofill combines traditional sculptural and painting techniques with contemporary media such as photography.

Communication is a central pillar: his sculptures and images function as visual dialogues between apparent opposites. Nature and culture, inside and outside, light and dark, masculine and feminine, the subjective and the objective – for Bofill, these are not fixed opposites, but forces that constantly influence each other.

The core of his artistic quest lies in the tension between isolation and unity. His work depicts a continuous process of development in which the individual and the universal alternate and ultimately converge. Bofill sees aesthetic beauty not as decoration, but as harmony: the moment when extremes find balance and duality is dissolved.

His oeuvre has been internationally recognized with various awards. In 1982, he received the Josep Llimona Prize for Sculpture from the Cercle Artístic de Sant Lluc. In 1997, the Catalan government awarded him the President Francesc Macià Medal for Work, and in 2001, he received the Prix International d’Art Contemporain de Monte Carlo.
