About the artist
Marie Henri Mackenzie was born in Rotterdam in 1878, he died in Hilversum in 1961. He studied at the art academy in Rotterdam and was apprenticed to G. H. Breitner in Amsterdam. He started his career as a professional painter after 1931. His work was profoundly influenced by Breitner. M.H. Mackenzie was a painter of landscapes, figures, portraits, cityscapes and seascapes. Mackenzie’s work is included in the collection of the Goois Museum in Hilversum and the Rijkscollectie.
