  • About the artist

Kees Bol was a Dutch painter and draftsman, born in 1916 in Oegstgeest. Initially, he built a career in business, but in 1946 he consciously chose art. He studied at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague, where he studied with Paul Citroen, among others.

From 1951 to 1972, Bol taught at the Design Academy Eindhoven and also taught at the Academy of Art in The Hague from 1963 to 1972. In addition to his teaching work, he spent considerable time in France, where the landscape and light had a lasting influence on his painting.

Kees Bol painted landscapes, portraits, and still lifes. His work is characterized by a clear composition, a refined use of color, and a strong focus on perception. In 1950, he received the prestigious Thérèse van Duyl-Schwartze Prize for his portraits, an important recognition within the Dutch art world.

Kees Bol's work is regularly shown in museums in the Netherlands and is represented in both private and institutional collections.
