Cornelis Johan (Cor) Vrendenberg 1911-1994) is een Nederlandse schilder en architect.
Leven en werk
Vrendenberg werd in 1911 in Heerlen geboren als zoon van de ambtenaar bij het Staatsspoor Jacob Willem Vrendenberg en van Christina Catharina Maters. Hij werd als beeldend kunstenaar opgeleid door de Utrechtse schilder en tekenleraar Jan Hendrik Boot. Hij was op meerdere terreinen van de beeldende kunst werkzaam. Hij was niet alleen beeldhouwer, maar ook schilder, houtsnijwerker, boetseerder. Daarnaast was hij werkzaam als architect. Hij ontwierp landhuizen en bungalows. Vrendenberg vestigde zich op de Veluwe waar hij vanaf 1954 als beeldend kunstenaar en als architect werkzaam was.
Vrendenberg was lid van Lid van "Het Palet" te Zwolle. Hij was gehuwd met Nel Jansen. Hij leerde zijn dochter, de beeldhouwer Carla Vrendenberg op jeugdige leeftijd de eerste beginselen van het vak van beeldhouwer. Vrendenberg overleed in oktober 1994 op 82-jarige leeftijd in Zwolle. - About the artist
Cornelis Johan “Cor” Vrendenberg was born on December 7, 1911, in Vierhouten and became a versatile Dutch artist and architect who bridged the gap between the built environment and the visual arts. His career reflects a deep fascination with form, space, and materials—themes he continually explored in both his architecture and his artwork.
Vrendenberg trained at various art and technical institutes in the Netherlands, where he developed into a thinker and creator. He found his voice in a modern, clear formal language with an emphasis on functionality and human experience. As an architect, he designed buildings characterized by a balance between aesthetics and usability, in which clean lines and sustainable simplicity played a key role.
Besides his architecture, Vrendenberg built a considerable reputation as a visual artist. His oeuvre includes sculptures, drawings, and applied art objects, often characterized by geometric structures and a strong spatial effect. His work demonstrates a continuous dialogue between order and expression, between the tranquility of the line and the dynamism of the volume.
Vrendenberg worked from Zwolle throughout his life, where he also played an active role in the regional art community. His works are included in various Dutch collections and
