  • About the artist

Eddy Roos (Amsterdam, January 13, 1949) is a Dutch artist, sculptor, and choreographer. He studied sculpture at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam and, after completing his studies, worked for a year and a half in Italy with the renowned sculptor Giacomo Manzù. Roos is considered a member of the third generation of the Group of Figurative Abstractionists.

His work is known for what he calls "still movement": dynamic, often floating figures that originate in dance. Roos sketches the movements of dancers and translates them into bronze sculptures in which tension, rhythm, and harmony are central.

His sculptures follow the classical dimensions of the golden ratio and combine figuration with a profound abstraction. Influences from artists such as Michelangelo, Maillol, and Donatello are recognizable. In addition to his sculpture, Eddy Roos has choreographed 42 dance films and designed several sculpture gardens, where he carefully integrates his sculptures into the natural environment.

In 2019, he was named Brilliant Artist of the Year. Since 2015, he has been giving masterclasses in figurative sculpture and portraiture to graduate sculptors and experienced self-taught artists from his studios in Amsterdam-Noord and Uithuizen.
