Modou Guèye (b. 5 September 1996, Pikine, Senegal) is a contemporary painter whose work bridges African cultural memory and a distinctly modern visual language. Raised in a family of artists, he absorbed creative practice early on, developing an intuitive sensitivity to colour, rhythm and human presence that continues to shape his oeuvre.
Educated as a painter at the Mo d’Art school in Lomé, Togo, Modou graduated in 2015 and quickly emerged as a compelling voice of his generation. His paintings are driven by a belief in art as a universal language—capable of expressing emotion where words fall short, and of connecting people across borders and cultures.
Modou’s work has been shown internationally at prominent platforms, including the Dak’Art Biennial 2024, the AfriKin Art Fair during Miami Art Week / Art Basel Miami Beach, the Alliance Française in Banjul, and the Radisson Hotel. Across these contexts, his canvases stand out for their vivid palette, emotional intensity and poetic reflections on human connection and existence.
Beyond the exhibition space, Modou has also reached wider audiences through his participation in the television series Golden and Pod et Marichou, reinforcing his profile as a versatile and contemporary cultural figure.
Now based in Barcelona, Modou continues to expand his artistic vocabulary through travel, observation and daily life. Fluent in Wolof and French, and increasingly in Spanish, he moves effortlessly between cultures. His work invites viewers into a world where colour carries emotion, beauty takes centre stage, and the human experience is rendered with striking honesty and depth.
