    Large covered vase by RAM Arnhem, designed by Theodor Colenbrander. 60 cm high. Dated 23 September 1922. This vase was the top model and decoration of the pottery factory RAM specially established for Colenbrander. With this decor 'kathedraal' they won the gold medal at the world exhibition in Paris in 1925; Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes. This copy is made in the opaque enamel, preferred by Colenbrander. Very rare.

    Theodoor (Theo) Christiaan Adriaan Colenbrander est né à Doesburg en 1831 et est décédé quelques kilomètres plus loin dans la plus petite ville des Pays-Bas: Laag-Keppel en 1930. Il était un architecte, céramiste et peintre de plaques et designer hollandais. Il a été caractérisé comme le premier designer industriel néerlandais. De 1884 à 1888, il fut designer et directeur artistique de la fabrique de plaques Plateelbakkerij Rozenburg à La Haye. Ses créations frappantes comportaient des formes distinctement irrégulières et des motifs décoratifs fantaisistes, généralement abstraits de la nature et exécutés dans une palette expressionniste. De 1921 à 1924, il travaille pour Ram Plateelbakkerij qui ne produit que des dessins de Colenbrander. Ce fut sa véritable percée en tant que designer et céramiste innovant. Theo Colenbrander a également réalisé des dessins pour des livres. Après avoir vécu dans des hôtels, des pensions et jamais marié, il déménage en 1928 à Laag-Keppel où il meurt à l'âge de 89 ans.
