About the artist
In Japan, old, rusty cars from the last century are cherished as heroes, who brought their owners freedom and independence for many years. Sander Schoonbeek (1983), who now lives in Brighton after graduating with an MFA from the University of Edinburgh, photographed these "heroes in the field" in Europe, USA and Japan and gives them a new life in his reworked screen prints.
