  • About the artist

Ramah, stage name of Henri-François Raemakers (Sint-Joost-ten-Node, 2 September 1887 - there, 10 March 1947), was a Belgian painter, watercolourist, etcher, draughtsman and caricaturist who is considered to belong to the school of the Brabant Fauvists.

He was encouraged by François Beauck to pursue a career as an artist.[1] Ramah mainly painted landscapes and portraits. His work was mainly decorative in nature. At the age of 25, he carried out the 15 etchings that were used in 1913 for a bibliophile edition of Les Villages illusoires by the Flemish French-speaking poet Emile Verhaeren. The following year he illustrated the Ulenspiegel by Charles De Coster.

From 1926 he was a member of the artists' collective Groupe des IX and in 1938 of Les Compagnons de l'Art.
