- About the artist
Titus Meeuws, born in 1976 in Roermond, is a contemporary Dutch painter known for his impressionistic cityscapes and landscapes. His artistic education began at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague, where he studied from 1994 to 1998. He then continued his studies at the Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam, where he graduated in 2002.
Meeuws draws his inspiration from the French and Russian Impressionists, whose ability to capture movement, light and space enchanted him from an early age. This influence is clearly visible in his working method: he first looks for a location with suitable light and then builds up his painting from light and dark areas. Although he initially encountered practical challenges when painting outdoors, such as dealing with weather conditions and passers-by, he discovered that these spontaneous circumstances actually made his work more lively. The constantly changing light and movement in the outside world force him to work quickly and keep his creativity sharp.
His oeuvre mainly consists of cityscapes and landscapes, in which he captures the dynamics and atmosphere of different locations. Meeuws' work is included in various collections, including those of Unilever in Rotterdam, the Municipal Archives of The Hague, the Scheveningen Museum and the Klomp Collection in The Hague.
Titus Meeuws continues to captivate the viewer with his ability to capture the essence of a moment, expressing the beauty of everyday life in his paintings.
