  • About the artist

Johan Abeling, born in 1953 in Emmen, is a Dutch painter who captures the state of the world, mysteries and landscapes. He was born in Groningen in 1972 and graduated from the Minerva Academy in 1978. This was made by the other Wout Muller and Barend Blankert, masters of realism, who did not always characterize his work with precision and craftsmanship.

Abeling's portraits are immediately recognizable by their serene, timeless atmosphere. These landscapes are not direct representations of existing places, but careful components in which he divides elements from Reality into something new. He locally abandoned villas, boundary posts, country roads and ditches in vast, often empty ruins, creating a dreamy and alienating image. It seems as if the world is even standing still.

A rich technology in this work is the use of transparent layers, which add light and air while the product comes into its own. This work has a flowing, meditative quality. The colours are bright, the contrasts subtle and the horizon is always visible.

After a long period in a gallery known for self-confidence, the world was created and presented in two works. This career provides a new impulse with international tents and a large group of people. His work is appreciated for its fortune to bring the viewer to rust and invite introspection.

Together met her wife, ceramicist Hedy, who has a studio in Groningen. There is work in all rust on his careful fabric canvases. The photos are designed to show a landscape that is not only visible, but also hangs in the air.
