- About the artworkRibbon Dancer by Fergus Leigh – “I had just returned home from watching my grand daughter perform in a dance production and, sat on my porch, I saw the leaves stirred up by the wind swirl upwards like a spiraling ribbon of leaves. It inspired me to combine the elegance of a young dancer (my grand daughter) with the natural elegance and beauty of nature. I left the ribbon to create the feeling of movement and as a reference to the inspiration of the leaves and natures wonderful choreography.
Height 57cm (22.5”) - About the artist
Fergus Leigh is a contemporary Scottish sculptor and conservationist whose work is rooted in a deep reverence for the natural world. Working primarily in bronze, Leigh creates expressive, finely balanced sculptures that capture the movement, tension, and vitality of animals in motion. His pieces often evoke fleeting moments—birds taking flight, mammals mid-stride—distilled into forms that feel both dynamic and timeless.
Leigh’s artistic practice is closely intertwined with his commitment to conservation. Drawing inspiration from the Scottish landscape and its wildlife, he approaches sculpture not only as an aesthetic pursuit but also as a means of raising awareness about the fragility of ecosystems. This dual focus lends his work a quiet urgency: each sculpture becomes both a celebration of nature’s beauty and a reminder of its vulnerability.
Characterized by a sensitive handling of form and surface, Leigh’s bronzes often retain visible traces of the artist’s hand, reinforcing a sense of immediacy and connection. His work appeals to collectors who value craftsmanship, narrative, and a strong relationship between art and the natural environment.
