Gijsbert Johannes Verspuy (Gouda, August 11, 1823 - there, November 30, 1862) was a Dutch painter from Gouda.
Gijsbert Johannes Verspuy was the son of the Gouda baker Johannes Verspuy and Jannetje van Kersen. He married Sophia Bokhoven in 1852.
Verspuy painted - just like his city and contemporary Dirk Johannes van Vreumingen in his spare time. He was a baker by profession. Verspuy was a student of the painters Cornelis Borsteegh and J.A.B. ter Beek.
He painted scenes from Gouda, but also made etchings and lithographs. Many of the city gates of Gouda that no longer exist have been immortalized by him.
The GoudA museum “Het Catharina Gasthuis” houses an extensive collection of his work.
