Sonia Delaunay was a world-renowned artist of Russian origin, known for her expressive geometric abstraction. In addition to her paintings and graphics, Delaunay designed fabrics, wall coverings, furniture and clothing, including for Metz & Co in Amsterdam. - About the artist
Although Sonia Delaunay was born in 1885, in Russia, after which she received education in both Germany and France. After graduation she made Paris her home, as modern art was glancing at meaningful subject matter not dependent on realistic depictions of the world. She was a primary propagator of Orphism, a theory of colour combinations to achieve visual intensity on the surface of a canvas. Delaunay extended the visual exploration of this theory to a range of fields, such as textile design. Her career spanned all over the European continent. Delaunay passed away in 1979.
