Tinus van Doorn è stato un pittore e grafico olandese in stile espressionista. Nato in Indonesia, la sua famiglia è tornata in Olanda e si è stabilita all'Aia quando aveva otto anni. Nel 1924 iniziò i suoi studi alla Royal Academy of Art, laureandosi nel 1928. Sposò Annie Vermeulen, conosciuta come Akkie.
Fu influenzato dalle opere di Marc Chagall e Franz Marc, sperimentando forma e colore. La sua prima grande mostra fu allo Stedelijk Museum nel 1933. Nei suoi ultimi dipinti, la morte è un tema ricorrente. Van Doorn capì che non gli sarebbe stato permesso di dipingere a suo piacimento sotto i nazisti. Nel 1938 si trasferì in Belgio. Quando l'esercito tedesco occupò Bruxelles nel 1940, si suicidò insieme al suo Akkie.
