Dirk Govert ('Dick') van Luijn (Utrecht, 1896 - Utrecht, 1981) was a Dutch sign, tekenaar en graficus, vooral bekend om zijn stadsgezichten, landschappen en stillevens waarin de verstilling van het alledaagse central staat. This work is written in the realistic tradition, with a voorkeur voor heroe vormen, subtle light values and a harmonious composition.
Van Luijn created his work at the Kunstnijverheidsschool in Utrecht and subsequently read at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam. Hij developed a style in the middle of the world that has realism and impressionism: it hits in the air in front of the room, with a lot of space in the air in the atmosphere. Zijn pale bleef doorgaans ingetogen, with veel aandacht voor toon en nuance.
A large part of the family worked in the living room of Van Luijn in the city of Utrecht, which was then used as an onderwerp. These cityscapes include kerks, canals, courtyards and plains, vast areas with plenty of detail and water - never as a documentaire, but as a silent poem in the city. There are also landscapes and flowers in each of them and there is a lot of rust and decoration.
Naast portrays in tekenaar what Van Luijn also acted as a graphic artist. Zijn etsen en litho's actuigen van a uitstekende control of technology and lijnvoering. Hij nam deel aan expositories in innen- and buitenland association, and was involved in the Utrechtse kunstkringen zoals Genootschap Kunstliefde.
Hoewel his geen radicale vernieuwer was, wordt Dick van Luijn gewaardeerd as a toegewijd en ambachtelijk kunstenaar, die met aandacht en vakmanschap de schoonheid van het gewone wist vast te leggen.
