Olieverf op doek - About the artist
Jurriën Marinus Beek (born 5 April 1879 in Arnhem, died 15 October 1965 in The Hague) was a Dutch painter and art dealer, known for his versatile oeuvre and his contributions to Dutch painting in the first half of the 20th century.
Around 1929, Beek settled in Scheveningen, a district of The Hague known for its maritime atmosphere and artist community. He later moved to the centre of The Hague, where he remained active in the art world until his death.
Beek painted a wide range of subjects, including landscapes, seascapes, still lifes, figure pieces and portraits. His seascapes and harbour views show a deep understanding of the maritime environment, probably influenced by his time in Scheveningen. His still lifes and figure pieces demonstrate a keen eye for detail and composition.
In addition to his work as a painter, Beek was also active as an art dealer, mainly selling his own work. His paintings can still be found at art auctions and in collections, which testifies to a lasting appreciation for his contribution to Dutch painting.
Jurriën Marinus Beek left behind a varied and rich oeuvre that captures the diversity and beauty of Dutch landscapes and maritime scenes. His work remains a source of inspiration for art lovers and collectors.
